Arts & Culture
Rochester has a rich community of arts and culture. That community needs help being sustainable. The city will establish an arts fund to support nonprofits. This fund will begin with a suggested $500,000. There are many options to grow this fund, including recruiting outside partners.
Rochester is lucky to have beautiful architecture and numerous landmarks. We must preserve our past and maintain the character and architectural integrity of our neighborhoods.
There are about 5,000 properties in the city that are designated Buildings of Historic Value. The Landmark Society of Western New York is surveying properties of historic value in an effort to update this list. Properties on this list, however, have been allowed to deteriorate and be demolished. The city needs a better, stronger policy to protect its historic resources and rich history.
All property owners and residents benefit when neighborhoods are preserved. Demolition is not economic development.
